Some tooth pains are so severe that taking pain killers can't provide the much-needed relief. Or if you're one of those who can't take strong pain killers, the trip to your dentist would be unbearable. It might be unsafe to drive because the teeth pain can be distracting.

What to Do If You Have Tooth Pain

This post shares some alternatives to pain killers until your dentist can treat your tooth-pain or until you reach a hospital's emergency room. You should consider teeth pain an emergency case if it has been persistent for at least a day, you have fever and you have swollen gums or other signs of infection and other symptoms aside from pain. Tooth pain may also have other causes aside from tooth decay and gum diseases.

Tooth Pain Remedies

Tooth pain can happen anytime. You may not be able to see your dentist at once or pain relievers may not be able to provide the much-needed temporary relief. Here are natural remedies to make the pain bearable especially at night. These are natural remedies are made from items that can be found in most households.

IMPORTANT NOTE: These are just temporary pain remedies that have been recommended by international dental providers. They will NOT help in all cases and are NOT substitutes to treatments prescribed by a dentist. If you are in pain, you should see a dentist immediately.

Salt and Hot Water

  1. Dilute one tablespoon of salt in a glass of warm to hot water.
  2. Gargle or rinse with this salt-water solution 4 to 5 time a day to reduce inflammation. This is the recommended remedy for tooth pain related to gum disease. The solution also temporarily increases the pH or alkalinity of the oral environment which prevents the proliferation of bacteria. Almost all types of bacteria prefer an acidic environment.

Salt and Pepper paste

  1. Mix ¼ teaspoon table salt and ¼ teaspoon pepper. Add a few drops of water to achieve a paste-like consistency.
  2. Spread the paste on the affected tooth. Leave for several minutes. Salt and pepper paste is an age-old tooth pain remedy. The ingredients have anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and analgesic properties to provide to provide fast tooth pain relief.

Guava Leaves

  1. Chew one to two tender leaves until there is enough juice to coat the affected tooth.
  2. You can also boil four to five leaves in water. Add salt; let the solution cool down and use as a mouthwash. Fresh guava leaves have anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial and analgesic properties.

Clove Oil

  1. Soak cotton ball in clove oil. Let the affected teeth bite on the cotton ball. If you don't have enough clove oil, put a small amount on a piece of cotton or absorbent material and gently rub on the affected area. This is recommended for pain on tooth with a deep cavity.
  2. If clove oil is not available, grind two pieces of whole cloves. Add a little olive or vegetable oil and use as in no. 1.
  3. You can prepare a clove oil mouth rinse by mixing a few drops of clove oil with ½ glass of water.

Clove oil has anesthetic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties to fight infection and tooth pain.
Other oils that can be used in the same manner as clove oil are: sunflower oil, sesame oil, nutmeg oil, oregano oil and tea tree oil.

Ice Cubes

Ice can help reduce tooth pain by numbing or anesthetizing the nerve endings.
  1. Put an ice cube wrapped in thin cotton cloth on your cheek near the affected tooth. Hold for a few minutes.
  2. Here's an acupressure technique to reduce tooth pain: Rub an ice cube between your thumb and index finger for a few minutes. Take note that the hand should be on the same side as your tooth pain.

In acupressure, that location between the thumb and the index finger is called the L14pressure point. L14 pressure point is said to interact with pain from various parts of the body. Rubbing L14 pressure point with ice cubes causes cold signals that intervene with pain signals. So, you don't feel the pain.

Garlic

Mix garlic powder or crushed garlic clove with table salt, then apply directly on the affected tooth. Garlic contains allicin which has antibiotic properties. Allicin reduces tooth pain by reducing bacteria on the area where it's applied.

Onion

Chew raw onion for a few minutes to reduce tooth pain. Or, cut it and place directly on the affected gum or tooth.

Vanilla Extract

Dip a cotton swab into vanilla and apply on the affected area. Repeat several times in a day until the pain is gone or reduced.

Ginger-Cayene paste

Make a ginger-cayene paste by mixing equal amounts of these spices with just enough water to achieve a paste-like consistency. Dip a small piece of cotton into the paste and place on the affected tooth until pain is reduced or gone. Avoid contact with the tongue or gums if you can't stand the heat from the two spices. Ginger or cayenne can be used separately as pastes. Both have analgesic properties.

Aim for Toothache Prevention

Most tooth-pains result from tooth decay and gum diseases. The best and only way to avoid tooth decay and gum diseases is through good oral hygiene practices that basically include the following: seeing a dentist every six months, brushing regularly, using toothpaste with fluoride, flossing daily and antiseptic mouthwash rinsing at least once daily.

The pain is gone. Should you still see your dentist?

Again these are just temporary remedies to alleviate the severe pain before you see your dentist. The pain may be gone but it's still a must to see your dentist as soon as you can because tooth pain is not always due to tooth decay or gum diseases. It is risky to always assume that tooth pain is a manifestation of tooth and gum problems.

Other possible causes of tooth pain are: bruxism or grinding of the teeth, ear or sinus infection or angina, a heart disease. Without proper diagnosis, you're not getting treated for these real causes of your tooth pain. That's why the proper diagnosis by a dentist is very important to get the right treatment for your tooth pain.

What to Do If You Have Tooth Pain

It's 6:30 AM, and oh I need my morning coffee. I drag myself out of my bed and head straight to my kitchen to grab that mug of instant energy to get me going. Then I get busy with my day-to-day schedule with no time whatsoever to work out. We blame our job, our kids and our tired selves for not finding time to stay active. How do we get ourselves out there and move to feel better, and in turn make the lives of people around us better as well (health improves mood and focus)?

How to Get in Shape and Stay in Shape

I hear so many friends of mine complaining about not getting the push to start working out or start the healthy diet regime, to get where they want to be. Sunny beach, bikini? Nope - I'm better off in my cover up! It might seem tough, but if you want to see yourself as someone healthy and happening you can do it as well.

10 Steps to a new you:

1. First have a clear goal in your mind about what you want to achieve, but remember to be practical, knowing that a healthy weight loss, or getting fit does take time. Anything too quick is usually short lived and harmful.

2. Talk to friends who have the same goal, make a chat group to keep in touch and post pictures to inspire and get inspired. Also take some before and after pictures. Post sweaty post-workout selfies for friends who are in that group. Stay motivated make it FUN!

3. Buy some athletic clothes, yes it helps a ton when you have good-looking clothes. You feel like wearing them and go to the gym or head out for a run. A good pair of shoes are key if you want to take running seriously, so do not skip or skimp on that.

4. Start slow and start EARLY! It does help, when we start early our energy level is at the peak and the early morning air always helps us to feel the best. However do not forget to warm up as it takes a while to get our bodies in the active mode early in the day. Starting with small easy walks always helps us to stay motivated without draining us out till the next workout. Build slowly from there. Add strength and more challenging cardio as you get stronger.

5. Music is another important component, create your favorite workout playlist. I have mine which I have saved under the playlist Run, and I keep updating the list to avoid getting bored.

6. Be regular, whatever you do stay on it, make it a routine. It is the key! Sometimes when its difficult to find time, workout for a few minutes; even ten minutes make a difference and keeps you on that track.

7. Eating is another key component, remember - 80 percent nutrition and 20 percent workout. A lot of health coaches use this formula and it is quite true. the first thing is to get rid of is all the junk food from your kitchen pantry. Stay on track, with home cooked tasty food. Don't go crazy right in the beginning on super low calorie food. Keep a food log, this really helps. Foods high in healthy fats are the best way to stay full and avoid binge eating. Who doesn't love to snack on junk specially after a long day when we are really hungry. Eating dense natural foods like nuts, hummus and avocados can help us stay on track. Include a protein in every big meal. Chicken and turkey are great options but lean grass-fed beef is also good. Vegetarian/Vegan options are also available if you stick to foods like nuts, chickpeas, hemp, flax seeds for optimum protein intake.

8. Eating in small portions but more frequently helps us not to binge. the key to lose weight is to EAT and not STARVE! Eat, but eat smart and eat yummy. Use spices and good fats to enhance flavor and taste.

9. There will be times that you lose track specially with vacations or during occasions. Never give up! Know that you can wake up the next morning and start a fresh and some cheat days are absolutely fine and also healthy not to get you frustrated. When on a vacation try to make smart food choice. Choose fresh fruits, salads and more protein. Bananas are another amazing fuel for our body, so keep them handy. If you slip off track in one meal, keep the next lean and healthy. But never get negative and give up.

10. And you need not have access to a gym or a grand outdoor setting - your floor in the living room is perfect! A set of 25 jumping jacks, followed by 20 squats, 30 second planks and 15 push ups can get you rolling. It is all about quality and not quantity! So little goes a long way. The key is to move and be smart in terms of food choices. With these tips you can start your journey to the new 'you' which you have always dreamt of.

Nothing is impossible when you train your brain and learn to have fun and not give up! Happy moving, and remember to say hello to your new self!

Go Natural - Face, Hair, Hand, And Nail Care

FACE CARE

If you have oily skin - A mixture of curd and gram flour to form a thick paste turns out very handy in this case. Just apply the consistency on your face and leave it to dry for a few minutes.

If you have dry skin - Instead of using curd all you do is switch to full-cream milk. Apply a mixture of the milk and gram flour onto your skin and leave to dry.

Dark Circles around the Eyes - the only remedy for the dark circle under the eyes is a whole lot of sleep, the right diet and regular exercise.

To lighten dark circles under your eyes, wrap a grated raw potato in cheesecloth and apply to eyelids for 15-20 minutes. Wipe off the residue and apply an eye cream.

You can put cucumber slice on closed eyes for relaxation.

Peach-and-Honey Mask - This revitalizing peach and honey mask is almost good enough to eat. However, what you'll really love about it is how it leaves your skin feeling soft and supple.

Ingredients:
  • 1 large peach-skinned
  • 3 teaspoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons yoghurt

Directions:

Mash the peach and honey together, add 2 tablespoons yoghurt until you have a workable paste. Pat evenly over your face and neck and around the eyes. Lie back and relax for about 10 minutes. Rinse off with warm water, pat dries and then tone and moisturize as you normally would.

Cucumber and mint are natural refreshers; oats and bran exfoliate; buttermilk, yoghurt, and cream cleanse and soften; lemon juice tones and refreshes.

HAIR CARE

Bouncy and soft hair is in, as usual and there isn't any better way to get them than with your favourite beverage beer! Beer is a popular and safe way to deep conditioning for hair. Yoghurt & Egg Treatment

Yoghurt cleans and softens; egg yolk adds shine; honey moisturizes and smooths.

  • ½ cup plain yoghurt

HAND AND NAIL CARE

Nail polish, if applied once too often is harmful and can leave your nails brittle and discolored.

Brittle Nails: Rubbing almond oil or olive oil on your nails every night before retiring to bed is a bonus as it keeps your nails from chipping and breaking.

Discolored Nails: Lime juice, if applied to your nails, helps the yellow discoloring disappear and leaves your nails white and naturally pink!

Effective Hand Exfoliant: Say goodbye to dry cracked hands the next winter. This easy-to-make Exfoliant will slough off all those dead skin cells. In addition, it cleanses and moisturizes; leaving hands soft and smooth.

Ingredients:
